Shardul Thakur went unsold initially during the IPL 2025 auction. However, the pacer was brought into the Lucknow Super Giants team as an injury replacement for Mohsin Khan. The Mumbai pacer has already impressed in the first two matches, taking six wickets and is the current Purple Cap holder for the IPL 2025 season. Speaking to broadcasters during the match, Thakur reflected on his rollercoaster month. "See, I feel all these things keep happening in cricket. It was just one bad day in the auction, I didn't get picked by any of the franchises," Thakur said. After going unsold, Thakur had planned to play county cricket for Essex, where he was supposed to feature in seven County Cricket Championship matches scheduled for April and May. However, a call from LSG's Zaheer Khan changed his plans. "While we were playing Ranji Trophy knockouts, Mr. Zaheer Khan made a call and said they were looking at me as a potential replacement. He advised me not to switch off and to keep my plans ready. That was the day I started to get into the IPL mindset again, and the hopes came back," Thakur said after collecting the Player of the Match award. During the match, he also reached the milestone of 100 IPL wickets. Despite the achievement, Thakur said that winning matches remains his top priority. "It's always good to be on the score sheet, but winning the game is important for me. I'll keep doing something or the other, that's my attitude. I don't look at the wickets or runs column, but to create match-winning performances," he said. Thakur's form has been a timely boost for LSG, who are without a couple of their frontline pacers. Avesh Khan, who missed the first game against Delhi Capitals, made his return against SRH. The team is also hopeful for the swift return of Mayank Yadav and Akash Deep. Up next, LSG will face Punjab Kings on April 1st.
