The Rajasthan Royals have come under heavy fire following their dramatic two-run defeat to Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025. The match, played on April 19 in Jaipur, saw RR fail to chase nine runs in the final over bowled by Avesh Khan. This led to allegations of match-fixing from Jaideep Bihani, convenor of the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) ad hoc committee and BJP MLA from Sri Ganganagar. Speaking to News18 Rajasthan, Bihani raised serious questions about the intent behind RR's performance and the franchise's ongoing disconnect with local cricket authorities. He pointed out RR's collapse in the final over despite needing only nine runs with international players at the crease. “Even a kid would say that the match against LSG was fixed. How did they lose on their home ground when so few runs were required in the final over?” Bihani said. Bihani also accused the franchise of sidelining the RCA and working solely with the district council. “The ad hoc committee has been appointed by the state government in Rajasthan. It has extended for a fifth time. We make sure all competitions take place without any issues. But then just as IPL came, the Zila Parishad (district council) took control of it,” he said. He further added: “For IPL, the BCCI had first sent a letter to RCA only, not Zila Parishad. The excuse given by them and RR that we don’t have an MOU from Sawai Mansingh Stadium. If MOU is not there, so what? Aren’t you paying Zila Parishad for every match?” Rajasthan Royals silent after MLA's claim, no Samson for next match vs RCB The match in question saw RR falter from 156/2 with 25 needed off 18 balls. Yashasvi Jaiswal and stand-in captain Riyan Parag were set, but both fell quickly before the final over. Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel and Shubham Dubey then failed to get nine off the last over bowled by Avesh Khan, as RR finished at 178/5 chasing 181. RR currently sit eighth on the table with just two wins in eight matches, and their playoff hopes are hanging by a thread. Adding more to their troubles, regular captain Sanju Samson is set to miss RR’s next clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 24 due to an abdominal injury. The franchise released a statement confirming that Samson will stay back at the team’s home base to continue his rehab. “Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson is currently undergoing recovery and will remain at the team's home base with select RR medical staff. As part of his ongoing rehab process, he will not be travelling to Bangalore for the upcoming match against RCB. The team management is monitoring his progress closely and will take a game-by-game approach regarding his return to action.” After their away game against RCB, RR will return home, where they will host Gujarat Titans on April 28.
