Spearheaded by their captain Rishabh Pant, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in their IPL 2025 afternoon game on April 27 against the Mumbai Indians (MI). The match took place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where the home team won. According to Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, Pant has been fined INR 24 lakh for the second offence of LSG this season. The rest of the playing XI and Impact Player will be fined INR 6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever is lower. Interestingly, it is noteworthy that the first offense of LSG was also in regard to MI on the 4th of April in Lucknow, for which Pant was fined INR 12 lakh. In the earlier days of IPL, a captain would receive a one-match ban with a fine for a third offense. Hardik Pandya missed MI's first IPL 2025 game against Chennai Super Kings on a third offense in the IPL 2024 season. The IPL governing council has now, however, scrapped the one-match ban clause and substituted it with demerit points and fines beginning from IPL 2025. Other skippers such as Shubman Gill, Axar Patel, Sanju Samson, Rajat Patidar, Riyan Parag, and Hardik Pandya have been charged fines for slow-over rate infringement. MI had set up a strong target of 215 runs, with Ryan Rickelton (58) being the top scorer. Losing early Aiden Markram (9) in the chase, LSG later could not maintain the momentum. Mitchell Marsh (34) and Nicholas Pooran (27) had a decent start but both failed to convert. The LSG came sixth on the points table with five wins from ten matches while Pant was cheaply dismissed for 4 off 2, caught in the circle attempting a reverse sweep. He has made just 110 runs in ten matches, averaging a miserable 12.22 and with the highest score of 63.
