Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during the match against Mumbai Indians on Friday. Since it was the team’s first offence of the season, Pant has been fined INR 12 lakh. In a statement released by the IPL, the governing body confirmed: “Rishabh Pant, Captain, Lucknow Super Giants, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 16 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.” The statement further added: “As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 12 Lakh.” Digvesh Singh Rathi fined 50% of the match fee Meanwhile, LSG bowler Digvesh Singh Rathi has been fined 50% of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the same match. Rathi, who dismissed Naman Dhir and celebrated with a “writing in the notebook” gesture, was penalized for his "Excessive Celebration". In addition to the fine, he has been handed two demerit points. Earlier in the tournament, he had received a 25% fine for the same celebration after dismissing Priyansh Arya. The IPL’s statement on Rathi read: “Digvesh Singh, Bowler has been fined 50 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Mumbai Indians. This was his second Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 this season and hence, he has accumulated Two Demerit Points, in addition to One Demerit Point which he accumulated during LSG’s match against Punjab Kings on April 01, 2025.” As per the IPL’s disciplinary guidelines, a player who accumulates between four and seven demerit points receives a one-match ban. If a player reaches between eight and eleven points, they are handed a two-match ban. Accumulating twelve to fifteen points results in a three-match suspension, while collecting sixteen or more demerit points leads to a five-match ban. These points stay on a player's record for a period of three years before they are wiped off.
