With IPL 2025 halted for one week and no set date for resumption, many are finding BCCI in a difficult place. However, the board appears to be unconcerned. The best window to have IPL Phase II would be during the Asia Cup 2025, which is planned for the third week in September. BCCI may seek to cancel the Asia Cup, directly involving Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan's interior minister and the newly elected president of ACC. This would be a winwin for the board and India, which finds itself in a notable rise in tensions with Pakistan, allowing BCCI to complete IPL after the intermission. The Asia Cup has a 19-day window in September, and at least two India vs Pakistan matches with television rights sales involved, but that could fall apart. Given Naqvi also works for Pakistan's government, and the political situation in India, it is highly doubtful the Indian team will be provided the opportunity to go. This is not simply a cancellation; it would be a decision enforced with official restrictions. As previously reported by InsideSport, the Asia Cup 2025 may not happen at all. The event was supposed to be played in T20 format as preparation for the T20 World Cup. As of May 8, the situation between India and Pakistan was more toned down. After a barrage of drone attacks from Pakistan, both military areas, and civilian areas- under the cover of darkness, the dynamics of the situation are now different. Given the situation, it is implausible to expect India to play Pakistan in any cricket match this year. This puts the Asian Cricket Council in a tough spot - just as former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar had foreseen. This may, in fact, be to the benefit of the BCCI. Naqvi might attempt to save the event, perhaps putting in Oman, UAE, or Hong Kong as the associate nations. But it will be difficult for the revenue to come in, with no India vs Pakistan so broadcasters will be reluctant to recover revenue. If this starts to cut into their revenue with the Pakistan Team, pressure returns to Naqvi on behalf of the Pakistani situation. October to December is loaded. India has the Women’s ODI World Cup, the Ashes is from November-December, as well as India touring Australia for a white-ball series in October. Therefore, it could suit both Indian cricket and the BCCI to replace the Asia Cup with IPL 2025 Phase II.
