The Board of Control for Cricket in India is all set to introduce seven new Indian umpires to officicate the 2025 Indian Premier League. The umpires are, namely Swaroopanand Kannur, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, Parashar Joshi, Anish Sahastrabuddhe, Keyur Kelkar, Koushik Gandhi, and Abhijeet Bengari. The motto behind introducing them is to get accustomed to the pressure of high-profile matches like that in IPL. Former Tamil Nadu cricketer Koushik Gandhi has quickly risen through the umpiring ranks, earning a spot in the IPL. A source close to the IPL has informed the Times of India, "Koushik Gandhi is a former Tamil Nadu player who has featured in thirty-four first-class matches. He is just into his second season as an umpire, but following impressive performances, he has been fast-tracked into women's internationals, the Women's Premier League, and now the Indian Premier League." Meanwhile, senior umpires like CK Nandan and S Ravi will mentor them in the 2025 IPL. Three international umpires—Michael Gough, Chris Gaffaney, and Adrian Holdstock—have been selected for the upcoming IPL season. Meanwhile, notable officials from IPL 2024, including former Sri Lankan spinner Kumar Dharmasena and Anil Chaudhary, will not be part of IPL 2025. Chaudhary has transitioned to a career in television commentary. Previously, captains faced a one-match suspension and a ₹30 lakh fine, impacting players like Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya. Other rule changes include allowing a second ball in the 11th over of night matches to counter dew, though umpires will decide its necessity.
