The Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 6 is likely to be rescheduled due to security concerns surrounding Ram Navami. Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly indicated that Kolkata police might struggle to provide adequate security for the match, given the large-scale religious processions planned across the city. According to a PTI report, Snehasish Ganguly held multiple discussions with local authorities and the city police on Tuesday, but they confirmed that ensuring security at Eden Gardens would be difficult. "They have categorically said they won't be able to provide adequate security. If there's no police protection, accommodating a 65,000-strong crowd becomes impossible," Snehasish Ganguly was quoted by PTI. Additionally, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari announced that over 20,000 processions would take place across West Bengal on Ram Navami, further complicating security arrangements during the match. 'We have informed the BCCI': CAB President Snehasish Ganguly The CAB has officially informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about the security concerns and is now awaiting a response. "We have informed the BCCI, and there is still time to take a final call. Even last year, a scheduled IPL match on Ram Navami had to be rescheduled," Ganguly added. This isn’t the first instance of an IPL match being affected by Ram Navami. In the previous season, the fixture between KKR and Rajasthan Royals was postponed for similar security reasons. Notably, LSG is owned by RPSG Group chairperson Sanjiv Goenka, who also owns the Indian Super League's Mohun Bagan Super Giants. Therefore, hosting the match on Ram Navami seems close to impossible at this point. Meanwhile, KKR will also host the IPL 2025 opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on March 22, with ICC Chairperson Jay Shah likely to be in attendance.
