Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper, has been fined INR 12 lakhs for a slow over-rate violation during their IPL 2025 match against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. It is a 36-run loss for the five-time champions considering the home side on March 30. Prior to this, the star all-rounder missed the MI opener against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which was led by Suryakumar Yadav in his absence. The Baroda cricketer was also on suspension for the franchise fixture against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) concerning a similar offense. The official statement said: “As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined INR 12 lakhs.” Before the upcoming 2025 season of IPL, its governing body decided to review the rules regarding slow-over-rate penalties. BCCI Quoted: “Effective this season, a new Code of Conduct will be implemented from the TATA IPL 2025 season, introducing a demerit points system and suspension points which will remain valid for 36 months.” Pandya stated in the Press Conference: “I think that is something out of my control. Last year what occurred was part of the sport, I think we bowled one and a half or two minutes late. At that point of time I did not know the consequences of what could happen. It is unfortunate, but it is the rule. Now will they continue with this rule next year, I think it is up to the higher authorities. They can see into it, and how it can be done,” Currently, the MI occupies ninth place with no points and is set to face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 31 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
