The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially announced the dates for cricket in the Los Angeles Olympics 2028. As per the announced schedule, cricket will be commencing on July 12. And the medal matches will be played on July 20 and 29. Notably, the women's medal match is likely to be played on July 20 and the men's to be played on July 29. Most matchdays are likely to be doubleheaders. The first match will start at 9:00 am, while the second match will be played at 6:30 pm. The time will be the same for medal matches. Additionally, there will be no cricket match on July 14 and July 21. All the matches will be played at the Fairgrounds Stadium in the city of Pomena—about 50km from Los Angeles. Meanwhile, 90 cricketers are allowed in numbers for the sport, each for men's and women's cricket. This means six teams are allowed, with each having 15 members in it. As per the International Council, the top six teams in the ICC rankings will eventually qualify for Olympic participation. Notably, the IOC is likely to divide the six teams in two groups, three a side. The group winners and runners-up will qualify for the semifinal matches. Like other sports, the winner will be given a gold medal, while the first runner-up will be given the silver. There will be a bronze medal match for the third position too. Cricket is coming back to the Olympics after 128 years. The last time it was played in the event, it was in 1900 Paris Olympics. Apart from cricket, sports like baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes) and squash are also added to the event.
