Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) suffered a major setback as several reports are suggesting that their young all-rounder Shreyanka Patil has been ruled out of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 due to injury. The 22-year-old, who played a crucial role in RCB’s campaign last season, couldn’t recover in time to participate in the tournament. Shreyanka Patil was seen in RCB’s pre-season videos, giving fans hope for her return. However, her absence from the playing XI against Gujarat Giants on February 14 sparked concerns. Later, she shared a cryptic post on Instagram that read, “Heartbroken, but I will fly again,” hinting at the disappointment of missing out from the marquee tournament. The young off-spinner had an impressive run in WPL 2024, winning the Purple Cap and taking four wickets in the final against Delhi Capitals. But injuries have troubled her since last year. She missed matches due to a finger injury in WPL 2024 and later picked up another setback during the Women’s Asia Cup clash against Pakistan. Though she made a comeback in the T20 World Cup, she was sidelined again for India’s home series against Ireland and the West Indies. Rana, who went unsold in last year’s auction for WPL, now gets a fresh opportunity to prove herself. RCB has been dealing with a series of injury blows. Earlier, Sophie Molineux, Asha Sobhana, Kate Cross, and Sophie Devine were also ruled out. The absence of key players has left their spin attack significantly weakened. In the absence of Shreyanka, Molineux, and Sobhana, RCB’s spin options now include Georgia Wareham, Charlie Dean, Kanika Ahuja, and uncapped Prema Rawat. With the tournament underway, RCB will have to make quick adjustments to keep their campaign on track.
