On Sunday, March 2, the manager of the Indian cricket team, R Devraj, left the team abruptly, suffering from personal loss. According to a report from Cricbuzz, his mother has passed away, and thus Devraj had to leave immediately for his hometown, Hyderabad. Apart from being the team's manager, he is also the secretary of the Hyderabad Cricket Association. Being empathic to Devraj's loss, the Hyderabad Cricket Association has expressed their condolence and issued an official statement. It said, "With deep sorrow, we inform you that our Secretary Devraj's mother, Kamaleshwari garu, has passed away. May her soul rest in peace. Our heartfelt condolences to Devraj Garu and his family." Prior to this, India's bowling coach, Morne Morkel, had to leave the camp early as he also suffered from similar personal loss. He lost his father and had left the team, but returned before India was facing New Zealand in Dubai. Henry trapped Gill LBW, while Phillips’ stunning one-handed catch removed Kohli. Rohit, after a promising start, holed out to Young. Shreyas Iyer (79) and Axar Patel (42) steadied the innings with a crucial 98-run stand, while Hardik Pandya’s aggressive 45 off 45 balls helped India reach 249/9. KL Rahul (23) showed promise but couldn’t capitalize. Henry’s 5/42 and Santner’s disciplined bowling kept India from accelerating, ensuring New Zealand maintained control for most of the innings. Coming to chase, New Zealand apparently had a great start, unless they lost their first wicket, Rachin Ravindra (6), within 17 runs on board. However, none of the Kiwi batters could score big unless it was Kane Williamson with a gritty half-century. Like Iyer, Williamson (81) too fell short of his century with a stunning stumping from KL Rahul off Axar Patel. Varun Chakravarthy, who played the first match in the tournament, sealed a fifer for 42. Kuldeep Yadav took 2, while Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel took one each. Meanwhile, Axar Patel was an absolute package for India. Be it with the bat, diving to take catches, or taking wickets, he did all. Notably, India will face Australia in Dubai on March 4.
