India created history in T20I cricket in the year 2024, ending an 11-year wait to seize an ICC title at the T20 World Cup. The team has been consistent since then and can expect it to be exciting again in 2025. The first of five-match T20I series against England will begin under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav. In looking back at 2024, following the T20 World Cup, India played four bilateral series, against Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and South Africa. They won all four bilateral series. Of the 26 completed T20I matches India played in 2024, they emerged victorious in 24, an impressive win record. More significantly, however, was the manner in which India batted to achieve that victory. India generally was pretty conservative ahead of 2024 in the context of T20 cricket. India's intention often has been a run-a-ball, building a pressure, which ultimately goes till the final over where the accelerator will take off. And then at times it clicks and results in 170, 180 types of scores that aren't sufficient for contemporary cricket, however after T20 World Cup India regularly went beyond the score of 200. In last 11 matches, they scored above 200 on seven occasions. They have the most 200+ scores in T20Is; to date, they have registered 41 scores above 200. Their highest score came against Bangladesh, where they batted their way to 297/1 in October 2024. India also scored new highs in 2024, striking four or six to every 4.68 balls and exceeding 250 runs in an innings. Also, there were seven individual hundreds in T20Is during the year, three from Sanju Samson, two from Tilak Varma, one from Abhishek Sharma, and one from former captain Rohit Sharma who scored 121 runs against Afghanistan.
