As we enter into the month of an ICC tournament, India are all set to take on England in an highly anticipated ODI series before the mega event. The ICC Champions Trophy starts from 19th February with the venues being Pakistan and Dubai (only for India's matches) and thus this home series against England would be the perfect opportunity for the Indian camp to prepare for the tournament ahead as they will get similar sort of pitches and can find their right combination of players. A sorted top order The opening pair is absolutely locked in with skipper Rohit Sharma and vice captain Shubman Gill taking up the leadership responsibilities of the pack. There were reports of Yashashvi Jaiswal replacing Gill but after the appointment of Gill as the vice-captain of the team, it is confirmed that Gill would be a permanent and significant part of the playing XI as of now. Virat Kohli, the highest run- scorer of the 2023 ICC World Cup will also retain his no. 3 spot in any circumstances. Coming to Shreyas Iyer, a huge and integral part of India's last ODI World Cup campaign is all set to make a comeback and retain his postion as a solid middle order batter. Iyer found himself surrounded by a bit of controversies regarding the skipping of domestic matches after the conclusion of WC '23 but looks ready to prove his worth once again in the one-day setup. With the return of Rishabh Pant, the place of KL Rahul might not be confirmed. Although, KL might have an advantage over Pant as he has been a great fit as the WK in the ODI team and amassed 452 runs at an avg. of 75.33 in the last ODI WC. Talking about all-rounders, it's a no brainer that both, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja will find a spot for themselves in the team. Batting at no. 6 and 7, these two star players bring a great depth to the batting and can provide quality 10 overs each of pace and spin, respectively, not to forget their gun fielding which can change the match at any point. Shami will be making a return to the ODI team after taking more than a year to recover from his inury, it is also understood that Arshdeep would be the second frontline pacer in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. However it would be interesting to see if the management goes with Harshit Rana as the 3rd seamer or with Axar Patel/ Varun Chakravarthy as the 3rd spinner. Varun was added to the ODI squad on Tuesday after his outstanding performance in the T20I series.
