The England vs India 5-match test series kicks off from 20th June at Headingley, Leeds. While the hosts have already revealed their playing XI for the first test, the team combination of India still remains a suspense. The recent test retirement of greats like R. Ashwin, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have left huge shoes which need to be filled in by others. Though Ashwin retired in the middle of the Australia series and India played two tests after that in the same series, Rohit and Kohli announced their retirements just before the team selection for the England tour, shocking cricket fans all over the globe. Therefore, the batting order must be feeling a massive void in it. India's newly appointed vice-captain Rishabh Pant addressed the media on Wednesday and gave some insights related to the batting order. The 27-year old confirmed that Shubman Gill, who will be leading his country for the first time, will be taking up the no. 4 spot while Rishabh himself will continue to bat at no. 5. He also informed that it's still not confirmed that who'll bat at no. 3. The massive decision would be to choose the no. 3 batter. The multiple contenders for the position are A. Easwaran, Karun Nair and Sai Sudharshan. However Nair and Sudharshan seem to be the front-runner for the position because of their excellent recent form. The position of no. 6 would be a massive call as the team management would have to decide if they need to play a pure batter or an all-rounder at it. A pure batter could either be Karun Nair or Dhruv Jurel but if India decide to go with an all rounder, it would most likely be Nitish Kumar Reddy as he was immensely successful in Australia. Meanwhile the position of Ravindra Jadeja is fixed down the order. Also Read: Nick Knight feels James Andersons absence would boost Indias confidence The Pace Attack Jasprit Bumrah and Md. Siraj will be the two frontline pacers of the attack undoubtedly. However India have a lot of options available for choosing their third seamer. From P. Krishna and Akash Deep to Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana, their is alot of variety in the pace attack. The English conditions will encourage the think tank to go more towards Krishna and Arshdeep, also keeping their recent form in mind. Krishna might have the edge over Arshdeep because of his experience and the good outing he had in the last test against the Aussies. Shardul Thakur will definitely be an option as the fourth seamer because of his all-round abilities and his past success in the English conditions, especially with the bat. He could be in a direct competition with Reddy as the fourth pace bowling option.
