The BCCI is going early in terms of preparatory exercises for the Test tour of England, where considerations are being held regarding probable selections for the five matches. A few slots in the middle order are still vacant and selectors are looking at Shreyas Iyer, Karun Nair, Sai Sudharsan, Rajat Patidar, Devdutt Padikkal, and Sarfaraz Khan. According to a report from PTI, the announcement for the final squad for the series against England is expected to take place in the second week of May. India A will tour England in the latter part of May to play two warm-up matches against the England Lions as well as an intrasquad game along with the main Indian team. In this regard, it is understood that the BCCI is likely to announce a more trimmed squad measuring around 15-16 players as opposed to the earlier touring squad of 17 that went to Australia. Previously, the news revealed that Karun Nair was under the BCCI radar. He did well in both the Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy, confirming his current form in the IPL. Devdutt Padikkal from India’s Australia series squad remains in contention. Sarfaraz Khan, yet another BGT performer, is under scrutiny as well. Iyer was laid low with back injury and form problems while Patidar could not nail down a place in his debut with six dismal returns. Nevertheless, Iyer made a strong comeback in the Ranji Trophy, finishing fourth among highest scorers and guiding Vidarbha to its third title. Sudharsan, who hasn't played Test match cricket yet, has figured in ODIs and gained red-ball experience with Surrey in county cricket. He really shined for Tamil Nadu in domestic games and is currently in splendid form for Gujarat Titans in the IPL.
