Following a huge defeat to the first Test at Headingley, Team India has now one week of rest before the second match of the series starts in Birmingham. The second Test will be at Edgbaston and the Indian team, captained by Shubman Gill, will aim to come back strong and even the series finds itself in. The team might be short on confidence, but there were still some encouraging signs in the first Test, five Indian centurions, for one. And now, they will attempt to capitalize on those positives and turn the table at a venue where India has never won a Test match. But whereas Team India has never experienced victory at Edgbaston, it doesn't mean that Indian players haven't performed well there. On the contrary, years ago some of India's biggest names have scored fantastic centuries in this stadium. Their innings have stunned the home fans and demonstrated the class of Indian batsmen, even under challenging English conditions. It occurred in the 1996 England tour. In the first innings, Sachin managed to make just 24, and India was in trouble once more in the second innings. That's when Tendulkar came to the rescue. Against bowlers such as Dominic Cork and Allan Mullally, he struggled but still managed a fantastic 122. The pitch was not a friendly one, and India required someone to hold ground, Sachin did just that. India went on to lose the game by 8 wickets, but his innings was a highlight of the game. India was in trouble, stuck at 100 for 5, chasing England’s total of 287. Kohli then went on to deliver a wise and aggressive innings. He formed alliances with the last two wicket-men and did not allow pressure to overwhelm him. His 149 is the highest Indian score at Edgbaston. That innings was a powerful message to critics that he was incapable of playing in English conditions. Rishabh Pant - 146 in 2022 In the one-off Test in 2022, Rishabh Pant demonstrated what fearless cricket is. India was again in trouble after losing 5 wickets for under 100 runs. That's when Pant initiated a counterattack. Pant pursued the bowlers from the very beginning and never spared them. He scored 146 from a mere 111 balls, with the majority of the damage inflicted upon England spinner Jack Leach, to whom he conceded 71 runs in 9 overs. Though India lost the match, Pant's innings won hearts and made everyone remember his talent. While Pant played with caution being thrown to the winds, Jadeja played to stay at the crease and make a good total. Jadeja made a controlled and well-constructed 104 runs, demonstrating his worth as a good middle-order batsman. His as well as Pant's innings helped India make a strong first-innings total of 416 runs.
