The Uttarakhand High Court has directed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to reply to petitions that blame Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU) for misusing almost ₹12 crore of money. The money was intended for the organization of cricket tournaments, but there are now unbelievable details that have surfaced. As per a Times of India report, the petitions brought to light an audit report that pointed towards expenditure of ₹35 lakh being incurred solely on bananas for the players. The report further alleged that about ₹6.4 crore was spent on "event management" and another ₹26.3 crore on tournaments and trials. This was a sharp increase from ₹22.3 crore it had spent last year. The case was heard by Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari, who admitted multiple petitions filed by Dehradun resident Sanjay Rawat and others. The petitioners alleged that crores were embezzled in the name of food and that the state players never got the facilities promised to them. The high court has fixed Friday as the next hearing date. The Indian cricket board retained the title of the world's richest board by accumulating a huge ₹14,627 crore over the past five years. This includes ₹4,193 crore collected in the recent financial year, taking its overall bank balance to ₹20,686 crore, as per a Cricbuzz report. The BCCI general fund also experienced massive growth, from ₹3,906 crore in 2019 to ₹7,988 crore in 2024. This information was presented to state associations during the 2024 AGM. The statement of accounts said: "Honorary Secretary apprised the members that since 2019, the cash and bank balance of BCCI has increased from ₹6,059 crore, which was before disbursing any amount to the state cricket associations to ₹20,686 crore which is after disbursing all amounts owed to the state cricket associations." This illustrates how the BCCI goes from strength to strength financially while state associations such as CAU come under scrutiny for transparency.
