The Indian senior pacer, Mohammed Shami has been listed among the 50 probables announced by the Cricket Association of Bengal for the 2026–27 domestic season. The senior pacer, who has been out of competitive action since the IPL 2025, did not feature in India's ongoing Test tour of England. His inclusion in Bengal's expanded squad signals a potential return, with a likely appearance for East Zone in the Duleep Trophy, starting August 28. The veteran speedster, with 64 Tests, 108 ODIs, and 25 T20Is under his belt, last played for India in the 2025 Champions Trophy. In that title-winning campaign, India defeated New Zealand in the final. Shami was joint-highest wicket-taker for India, claiming nine wickets in five matches, although conceding runs at an economy of 5.68. However, the pacer endured a forgettable season, picking up just six wickets in nine matches while leaking runs at 11.23 per over. This followed a long injury spell, including ankle surgery and persistent knee niggles, which had earlier sidelined Mohammed Shami from most of 2024. Shami briefly returned for the T20I series against England in January 2024 after a break post the ODI World Cup final in 2023. His last domestic outing was also for Bengal in late 2024. Bengal’s probables list features familiar names: Abhimanyu Easwaran, Akash Deep, Mukesh Kumar, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Abishek Porel, all of whom are expected to form the team's core this season.
