Indian-origin cricketer Hasrat Gill has been signed by Melbourne Stars for the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2024. The 18-year-old will join Indian players Deepti Sharma and Yastika Bhatia in the squad for the upcoming WBBL starting on Sunday, October 27. Hasrat earned her first contract with Victoria ahead of the 2024-25 Women's National Cricket League season. She had a great year this season for the Australia U19 team in the Women's Under-19s T20 Tournament in Sri Lanka. She scored 48 runs in two innings with an average of 48 and a strike rate of 129.72 and the top score was 40 not out. In bowling, Hasrat took six wickets at an economy rate of 5.63 which comprises of a four-wicket haul. In the last season, the Stars finished at seventh position in the points table and failed to enter the playoffs. They could garner only 12 points from six wins from the total 14 games and had a net run rate of -0.779. The Stars have excluded Nicole Faltum and Milly Illingworth from last season's team. Yastika Bhatia, Maisy Gibson, Deepti Sharma, and Marizanne Kapp would strengthen the team for this season. Hopefully, they will do better in the event tournament soon.
