Veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan on Saturday announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket, thereby bringing an end to a glittering career replete with numerous fine performances. Dhawan made his debut for India in the ODI against Australia in Visakhapatnam in 2010. He had less than an ideal start to his campaign as he was dismissed for a two-ball duck. Dhawan made a comeback to the Indian team in 2013 and got a chance to play consistently well to seal his place in all three formats. Maybe one of the most talking points about his initial success would be that he has held the record for the fastest century by any batsman on Test debut. He reached the three-figure mark against Australia at Mohali in 2013, off just 85 balls. This knock finally earned him a place in the Indian ODI team. He went on to become the highest scorer in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy and won the 'golden bat.' He did the same thing when the same tournament was held in England four years later. Dhawan's last appearance for India came in the ODI series against Bangladesh last December. His form, though, had dropped over the past few years and he had lost his place to younger openers like Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The 37-year-old, in all, played 34 Tests, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20Is, scoring 10,867 runs with 24 centuries across all formats. Tributes poured in from the Indian cricket fraternity following his retirement, saluting his contribution to the game. Watch the reactions here: Congratulations on an outstanding career, shikhi pa.
