After a 10-wicket loss to Australia at Adelaide, India has been demoted to the third spot in the World Test Championship Ranking with the Point Percentage (PCT) coming down to 57.29. With this, India's road to finals has been tricky. Coming down at the third, India are having South Africa at the second and Australia at the top, as their PCT has increased from 57.69 to 60.71. Presently, India has 3 more Tests to play, where they can't afford more than a draw and definitely not a defeat. India has already played two finals, one in 2021 and the other in 2023, but the Mace has been a dream to them. New Zealand won the first and Australia the second; India is eyeing their third attempt for the final. However, it has been a collective journey for India, having to look after South Africa's performance against Sri Lanka. If they win two Tests and draw one, India will have a PCT of 60.52. But if they win all three, their PCT will rise to 64.05, which will be enough for India to qualify. But what if India loses another Test? If the series outcome looks 3-2 for India, then they will have a PCT of 58.77. Australia won't be able to breach that, as they have just two tests left against Sri Lanka. On the other hand, South Africa, if they win against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, will cross that PCT. However, India still will have chances. What if India wins two of the three matches and draws one? If the result shows 3-1 in favour of India, they will finish with 138 points and a PCT of 60.52. Therefore, India will swiftly walk into the finals. What if India draws the series? In that case, India will have a PCT of 57.01, which Australia can easily cross if they win against Sri Lanka. If Australia whitewash Sri Lanka, India will be knocked out of the WTC final.
