The Indian Women's cricket squad has been dealt a huge blow prior to the ODI series against Australia and the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025. Wicket-keeper batter Yastika Bhatia has been disqualified because of a knee injury while playing for the camp in Visakhapatnam. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that Bhatia is being monitored by its medical team. "The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring Yastika Bhatia's progress and the team wishes Yastika Bhatia a speedy recovery," said the board in a statement. Her inclusion in the senior squad now means she will not play those preparation matches anymore. Chetry, an Assamite, has appeared in seven T20Is for India but her numbers are modest thus far, 37 runs from four matches with the best score of 24 and a strike rate of a little over 90. Though her record is abysmal, she now has a golden opportunity to show that she can hold her own on the big stage. India Women will feature in a three-match ODI series against Australia from September 14 to 20 in Mullanpur. Then they will feature in two World Cup warm-up matches in Bengaluru before launching their campaign against co-hosts Sri Lanka on September 30 in Guwahati.
