India Women’s cricket team scripted history on Wednesday, winning their second consecutive ODI series against England in England. They edged out the hosts by 13 runs in the final match of the three-game series at Chester-le-Street, sealing the series 2-1. With this triumph, India joined Australia as the only two teams to have won back-to-back bilateral ODI series in England. The last such win came in 2022 when India secured a 3-0 whitewash. Harmanpreet Kaur played a captain’s knock, smashing 102 runs off 84 deliveries. Her innings powered India to a commanding 318/4 in 50 overs. She hit 14 fours, making it her third century on English soil. Jemimah Rodrigues added a handy 50 off 45 balls. Richa Ghosh provided late acceleration with a blazing 38 not out off just 18 balls. However, her dismissal in the final overs tilted the contest in India’s favour. England were bowled out for 305 in 49.5 overs. Harmanpreet’s innings also took her past 1,000 ODI runs in England, making her the second Indian after Mithali Raj to reach the milestone. She has achieved this in just 30 matches. Additionally, she crossed 4,000 career ODI runs—joining an elite club alongside Mithali (7,805) and Smriti Mandhana (4,588). Mithali Raj was the first non-English player to reach 1,000 ODI runs in England, with 1,555 runs from 41 games. India will return to international duty in September with a home series against Australia. This will serve as preparation for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup, which India is set to host.
