On Sunday, December 22, Indian girls won the inaugural Under-19 Asia Cup by defeating Bangladesh by 41 runs at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur. Bangladesh, on winning the toss, elected to field first. The Bangladeshi bowlers did a good job as none of the batters stood tall except the opener, Gongadi Trisha, who scored 52 runs off 47 balls. Trisha, who was one of the main names behind India’s victory in the Women’s T20 World Cup last year in South Africa, smashed five boundaries and 2 over boundaries, having a strike rate of 110.63 in the final today. Mithila Vinod needs some special appreciation for her cameo down the order, contributing crucial 17 runs off 12 balls, hitting 2 fours and 1 six. For Bangladesh, Farjana Easmin took four wickets, while Nishita Akter Nishi and Habiba Islam took 2 and 1 wickets, respectively. Opener Fahima Khatun and Juairiya Ferdous managed to contribute with scores of 18 and 22, respectively. However, captain Sumaiya Akter's dismissal by Sonam Yadav added to their woes. Sonam Yadav and Parunika Sisodia claimed two wickets each, but it was Aayushi Shukla who stood out as India's best bowler. Shukla, the tournament's leading wicket-taker, delivered a stellar performance, finishing with figures of 3.3-0-17-3, dismantling Bangladesh's batting order. India's dominance began early, with VJ Joshitha removing Eva for a duck in the second over. Bangladesh's batting lineup crumbled, losing seven wickets for just 21 runs in the space of 40 balls. As India wrapped up the game, they looked poised to take this winning momentum into the U19 World Cup next year.
