On Thursday, the Board of Cricket Control in India confirmed that Indian wicketkeeper batter Yastika Bhatia has been ruled out from the Indian team due to a knee injury. This means she has been ruled out from the ODI series against Australia and also from the most anticipated 2025 ICC Women's World Cup. Yastika Bhatia sustained the knee injury while the team was in the preparatory camp in Vishakhapatnam. She was part of the India A team that was playing a white ball series against Australia A this August. The BCCI has wished the keeper-batter a speedy recovery and has informed that the medical team is looking after her. BCCI released a press release saying, “The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring Yastika Bhatia’s progress and the team wishes Yastika Bhatia a speedy recovery." Bhatia has been a crucial addition to the team for the 2025 World Cup on the home turf. With India losing her, it will be amassive blow to the team. India adds Assam's Uma Chetry as replacement With Yastika Bhatia ruled out, the BCCI announced Uma Chetry as the replacement to the team. The 21-year-old from Assam has long drawn the attention of selectors, showcasing her wicketkeeping prowess and dependable batting in domestic games and India A tours. The BCCI press release added, “Chetry, who now is a part of the India squad for the Australia series and the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, will no longer be a part of the India A squad, which is scheduled to take part in a warm-up match in the World Cup." Chetry, representing Assam, has featured in seven T20Is, managing 37 runs across four innings with a strike rate slightly above 90. Her highest score in the format remains 24. India are set to host Australia for a three-match ODI series starting September 14 in Mullanpur. Following that, the Women in Blue will play two World Cup warm-up fixtures in Bengaluru before beginning their campaign against co-hosts Sri Lanka in Guwahati on September 30.
