This is India's most important match of T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday when they lock horns with West Indies at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. After suffering a comprehensive defeat against South Africa in the Super 8 opener, India had an impressive comeback against Zimbabwe to win the match by 71 runs. This victory keeps the hopes for a semifinal alive for the Indian team. With South Africa having defeated West Indies already, the scenario is fairly simple: The winner of India-West Indies tie will qualify alongside South Africa from Group 1 for the semifinals. Zimbabwe are already out of the tournament. For India it's a do-or-die match, win and they qualify for the last four, loss and they crash out. The Super 8 clash is scheduled to be held on the same wicket that played host to Scotland's above-200 score in their earlier World Cup outing. The curator Sujan Mukherjee confirmed that the Super 8 match against West Indies will be played on the very same wicket. Across the five matches at Eden Gardens so far, the average first innings score reads roughly 182. Four of the five matches have been won by the team batting first. Reports suggest a decent batting track but it will likely be a black soil pitch. That means that the track is expected to be slow at the start and assist the spinners in the middle of the innings. Dew is likely to be a major factor, particularly in the latter half. Black soil pitches tend to improve greatly in dew, which is why the captain winning the toss might decide to bowl first.
