On day 3 of India's intrasquad simulation match, India's full-time batting opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was seen bowling leg spin, sparking thoughts that the team may use him for doing so at Perth. India will face the Australians in the first Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy on November 22 in Perth's Optus Stadium. The pitch curator of Optus Stadium, Andrew McDonald, earlier clarified that Perth's pitch will aid bounce and can be deadly for the batters. Seeing Jaiswal bowling leg spin, there are speculations that India may walk on without the spin duo Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. In case the team feels the need for some leg spin, Jaiswal can come in handy. Added, Ravichandran Ashwin didn't have a convincing series against New Zealand, so the team may not risk keeping him in the squad. The spinner has taken 39 wickets in 10 Tests in Australia and hopes to replicate his successful performance from the 2020/21 tour, where he claimed 12 wickets in 3 matches before an injury. If India chooses an all-pace attack, they could include Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna, with either Washington Sundar or Ravindra Jadeja, and six batters. Shubman Gill is likely to miss the opening Test due to a thumb injury. If Rohit Sharma is unavailable, India may opt for a batting lineup of Abhimanyu Easwaran, Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and either Sarfaraz Khan or Dhruv Jurel.
