Team India, who are currently participating in the Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai, have boosted their training with new techniques to refine their performance. Fielding coach T Dilip has taken a different fielding drill on board, while strength and conditioning coach Adrian Le Roux has adopted the Bronco Test to determine fitness levels. Both drills are meant to train the players more effectively to face challenges like the highly anticipated fixture against Pakistan. New Fielding Drill by T Dilip According to Times of India, Dilip created the drill to make players better gap-cutters on the field. The arrangement consisted of a goalpost-sized safety net, a football goalkeeper-like training session. Players had to defend their "goal" from catching new balls, which travel quicker than old ones. Both the players had two sets of five catches each, changing positions just like in batting practice nets. There were thrilling moments in the drill with Hardik Pandya initially missing a catch before stunning everybody with a stupendous one. Overjoyed, the beaming Hardik hugged coach Dilip after successfully making another brilliant catch, leaving Shivam Dube impressed. Vice-captain Shubman Gill also impressed, taking four full-stretch catches, two to the left and two to the right. The fielding coach yelled in ecstasy, "You are making it a habit." Gill even led Rinku Singh, who stumbled at first but came back strongly on his second try. Rinku's persistence earned him a medal, making the session all the more special. Abhishek mockingly asked, "Isn't it too big?" to which Dilip answered, "You can easily do it." Both the players finished the drill successfully, sharing a fist pump at the end. Earlier during the day, all 15 players were divided into two groups and conducted target-hitting drills using a full stump, half stump, and back roller. Shivam Dube was first to hit the target, but Rinku Singh walked away with the session and yet another medal. Bronco Test for Aerobic Fitness In addition to the new fielding exercise, India has also introduced the Bronco Test, a fitness exercise commonly practiced in rugby. The players need to cover 240 meters of running via 60-meter sprint in a particular order. The reason for the test was explained by strength and conditioning coach Adrian Le Roux: “We’ve now brought it into the team’s environment. It serves two purposes: we can use it as a training mechanism and also as a measurement. It gives us a clear picture of the players’ aerobic fitness and whether we’re moving in the right direction.” Le Roux also emphasized its long-term advantages: "If you’re physically prepared, you can play more seasons. The systems we put in place also minimise the risk of injuries." India's squad appears serious about availing themselves of all available advantages ahead of their highly important game against Pakistan on Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. With cutting-edge fielding training and rigorous fitness tests in the system, India's preparation is a manifestation of their desire to overwhelm the Asia Cup and retain their championship title.
