Virat Kohli has moved past MS Dhoni to become India's second-most capped international cricketer as senior batter, playing for India for the 536th time, during the first Test against New Zealand at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday. Kohli surpassed Dhoni's 535 appearances for the national team. Dhoni played for India from 2004 to 2019. The top spot is held by Sachin Tendulkar with 664 India caps. Others are the active players Rohit Sharma at 486 caps after Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja at 346. His total runs are at 27,041 and centuries are 80. Among the Indian cricketers, he comes next only to Tendulkar. He played 295 ODIs and 125 T20Is, retiring T20Is in 2024 after the World Cup. Kohli recently became the fastest player to reach 27,000 international runs, and it took him only 594 innings to do it. First appearance on the international level was in an ODI against Sri Lanka in the year 2008, scoring 17 runs; Kohli debuted in T20I in the year 2010 and marked his first appearance in Test in 2011.
