Team India had a very tough day in hand on the final day of the first Test against New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. India batted well and posted 462 runs on board in their second innings after being bowled out for just 46 runs in their first innings. The fight was given by Sarfaraz Khan (150), Rishabh Pant (99), Virat Kohli (70), and Rohit Sharma (52). It seemed as if India would take the lead above 150 runs. However, New Zealand's bowlers turned the table prior to tea. Southee scalped Sarfaraz, while Pant lost his wicket to O'Rourke at 99. Henry and Rourke bagged 3 wickets each, while Ajaz Patel bagged 2. Southee and Phillips also picked up a wicket each. India have now the responsibility of defending 107 runs on the last day. In 2004, India had done the same with Australia in the Wankhede Stadium when Harbhajan Singh, Anil Kumble, and Murali Kartik had taken the match-winning wickets for India. Only four deliveries were bowled in New Zealand's final innings at the end of the day. India was crying out for a breakthrough before stumps, but it wasn't to be. Umpires were waiting for the lights to get clear, but rain played a spoilsport which forced the officials to call the day despite 50 minutes of the game being left. Day 5 will begin at 9:15 PM (IST), and India's bowling attack led by the Jasprit Bumrah will have to do something special to emerge out of this situation to win. They would, of course, look forward to early wickets as the pressure is bound to mount on New Zealand.
