The last-minute addition to the Indian team, Harshit Rana, has reportedly been released from the Indian cricket team after they left Headingley. As per reports, Rana was not seen boarding the bus along with the rest of the players. The team traveled three hours before reaching Birhimhum, where the team is likely to rest for a few days. A source close to BCCI has revealed the proceedings to PTI, saying, "Harshit Rana has been released from the squad. He hasn’t traveled with the Indian squad to Birmingham for the second Test starting July 4.” On releasing Rana, head coach Gautam Gambhir informed that he is not aware of the reasons why Rana has been left out. But as per his knowledge, the board feared certain injury concerns about any one of the bowlers and has asked Rana to stay. And probably, now none of the concerns are valid. The Kolkata Knight Riders pacer was selected for the two unofficial Tests representing India against the England Lions. There, he took 1 wicket, leaking 99 runs in 27 overs. Bowlers like Anshul Khamboj and Mukhesh Kumar, despite outperforming him, were sidelined, making Rana get the ultimate call. A lot of turmoil happened. Rana has been enjoying a massive leap, debuting in all three formats right after Gambhir took the coaching responsibilities. And this has sparked debates on partiality. Rana debuted in the Tests last year, against Australia, but his performance wasn't a bit of havoc but decent. He came into the headlines after he broke Travis Head's wickets with a brilliant off-cutter at Perth. Notably, Rana was seen mingling with Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep at the bench during the first Test at Headingley, which India lost by 5 wickets. The second Test will be played in Birmingham, starting on June, 2nd.
