While selecting India playing XI, the selectors had taken some hard decisions for the first Test against Bangladesh. Most spots are set, but there was a debate over the number five position between Sarfaraz Khan and KL Rahul. Sarfaraz did well in the series against England, but KL Rahul is a key player for the Test team. Though Rahul's form has been up and down, his experience might give him an advantage over Sarfaraz. Sarfaraz being picked for the Duleep Trophy second match also hints that Rahul could play in the first Test. Former chief selector Kris Srikkanth feels bad for Sarfaraz but supports choosing Rahul. He also thinks Rishabh Pant will be picked over Dhruv Jurel for the first Test. Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel, "Honestly, I feel bad for Sarfaraz Khan. But, this happens, at times, in Test cricket. You would have been playing well but when a big player returns, you will have to lose your place. Take for instance, Rishabh Pant is returning because of which Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan are losing their places. Srikkanth highlighted how Rahul has an excellent record when he plays abroad and therefore should play ahead of Sarfaraz Khan. Srikkanth added, "At the back of the mind, they are also keeping the Australia series. New Zealand are also coming.
