Indian former captain Virat Kohli, who is known for his aggressive nature on the field, seemed to deliberately bump on the Australian opener Sam Konstas, while the later was changing his end. On day 1 of the fourth Test at Melbourne, Konstas was changing ends with the other opener, Usman Khawaja, between the 10th and the 11th over. Virat was walking towards Mohammad Siraj while juggling the ball. He visibly changed his trajectory as Konstas came near and their shoulders brushed off. A few seconds of word exchange, and then things got normal. Well, if counted from previous interviews, Konstas is a fan of Virat Kohli, expecting texts from him. On being asked who are three people in the oweld he expects texts from, he said, Shane Watson, his father, and Virat Kohli. Virat has walked one whole pitch over to his right and instigated that confrontation. No doubt in my mind whatsoever." "Have a look where Virat walks. Since 2019, Kohli has never accumulated any demerit points. However, according to the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), it is a Level 2 offence if anyone makes "inappropriate and deliberate physical contact with another player." This comes under Chapter 42.1 of the MCC Laws—Unacceptable Conduct. The on-field umpires are required to report any player they suspect of violating the code of conduct. Following this, the match referee evaluates the incident and delivers the final verdict. If the umpires and match referee conclude that Kohli's physical contact was intentional, he may face severe penalties from the International Cricket Council (ICC). Level 2 violations are subject to penalties that include: Fines ranging from 50% to 100% of the match fee or 1 suspension point for accumulating three demerit points. Two suspension points for amassing four demerit points. If the match referee hands Kohli four demerit points, he will have to miss one Test or two white ball games. This means he, playing the fifth and final Test at Sydney, is under uncertainty. Well, Kohli himself or the team management may appeal against any punishment proposed. Meanwhile, former umpire Simon Taufel suggested that the incident involving Kohli and Konstas was minor and might result in no significant sanctions.
