Nitish Reddy, the 21-year-old, became the last prey of Mitchell Starc, but not before scoring 42 runs for India, the highest in the first innings. The innings started with an early duck of Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, Shubman Gill (31) and KL Rahul (37) tried to stabilize the batting, but Rahul left to Starc again, giving a catch at gully. Following his wicket, India started rapidly loosing wickets. Virat Kohli, who made a magnificent hundred at Perth, fell short at seven runs. Rohit Sharma (3) who demoted himself in the middle order, flopped too. Just after Tea, India lost two successive wickets of Rishabh Pant (21) and Ravichandran Ashwin (22). Both batted with the young Nitish Reddy, the boy who did not shy away from trying shots despite having a struggling India. In the 43rd over, a short ball bounced off Starc to Reddy. Reddy totally missed the line, and the ball hit the front part of his helmet. He immediately shook off, taking off the helmet, while Starc checked on him. Even the physio was out to check for any concussions, however, went back, and Reddy continued playing. In the final over, Starc bowled a length ball around off. Reddy tried to go for a big but got the toe end of the bat and went straight up. At the mid-off, Travis Head took an easy catch, curtailing India's innings at 180 runs, as Reddy left, scoring 41 runs off 54 balls, and Starc took six wickets, conceding 48 runs.
