Afghanistan sustained a big setback just before their second ODI against India as two key all-rounders Mohammad Nabi and Azmatullah Omarzai were ruled out of the game in Lucknow. The visitors announced it at the toss ahead of the game, at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi confirmed that both players will miss the encounter and the management had to make significant changes to the team. Afghanistan opted to bowl first after winning the toss but all the attention was shifted to the missing of two experienced players that have been crucial to their side across formats. Shahidi clarifies Nabi and Omarzai absences At the time of the toss Shahidi cleared that the duo were not dropped on the basis of their performances in the first ODI. Both players are unavailable for the match due to different fitness reasons. The captain confirmed that veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi is unwell and was not fit enough to take the field. Azmatullah Omarzai however had sustained an injury which ruled him out of the match. Shahidi said at the toss : "Our boys have a lot of passion for cricket. It is the ability and skills of the players that they want to improve day by day. We have three changes. Nabi is not well. He is sick. Azmat is also injured. Sharifi is not playing. Bilal is in. Darwish Rasooli is coming in; he is the debutant. Another one, I don't remember it," The Afghanistan captain did not specify the kind of injury Omarzai sustained or give any indication of how long he will be out of action. Afghanistan forced into multiple changes Besides Nabi and Omarzai Afghanistan had also rested Ziaur Rahman Sharifi for the second ODI. Replacing the duo, the team brought in a couple of new faces including debutant ODI player, Darwish Rasooli. Bilal also made it into the playing XI as Afghanistan aimed to manage the side, despite losing two vital players. The loss of Nabi and Omarzai is huge because the duo can be impactful in both batting and bowling. Nabi's experience and Omarzai's ability to perform under pressure had often helped Afghanistan remain in contention against strong oppositions. Their absence put the onus on Rashid Khan, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and skipper Shahidi to come to the fore against a formidable Indian side. With three ODIs to go in the series Afghanistan will hope the change doesn't affect their game and they could draw the series level and keep their hopes alive in the series till the final match.
