The Board of Cricket Control in India is set to lace up for an ODI series at home against New Zealand in 2026. According to a report from the Times of India, New Zealand is likely to tour India in January for a white-ball series, having five T20Is and three One Day Internationals. In that case, the Indian fans will have the opportunity to enjoy both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli donning the blues. The series is likely to occur throughout January, starting on Jan 11 and ending on Jan 30. Point to be noted, BCCI has not made any official announcement yet. Last time New Zealand toured India was before the BGT, where they whitewashed India for a historic 3-0 win. It is not etched in the record books, but it trembled Rohit Sharma's position as the captain in the Test team. However, Ro-Ko has not retired from the ODIs, with Rohit still leading the ODI side. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma 's captaincy is at stake. The BCCI officials reportedly expected him to retire from the format after the Champions Trophy victory in 2025. Ro has expressed his desire to continue till the 2027 ODI World Cup. By that time, he will be 40, and that sounds concerning for the board. Notably, he, as a captain, missed the 2023 ODI World Cup trophy by a whisker despite a gallant effort from the team throughout the tournament. Due to the cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, Pakistan has also denied travel beyond the border. The tensions rose when India denied touring Pakistan during the Champions Trophy 2025, and just ignited after the inhuman terrorist attack on innocent tourists at Pahalgam. In such a situation, the Pakistan Cricket Board has approached that of Afghanistan's with the proposal of a tri-nation series including the UAE. However, it all depends on India's moves, if they want to host the tournament in their home or not. A source close to the development informed, "If the Asia Cup is cancelled or postponed, the PCB wants the Afghanistan and UAE teams to play the tri-series in Pakistan in August.” PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the chairperson of Asian Cricket Council, said, "The Indian cricket board is yet to confirm its willingness to host the Asia Cup at home. So, it remains to be seen when the ACC council meets and makes a call on the future of the Asia Cup, which is to be held in the T20 format."
