India A were routed in a sensational collapse on Day 2 against Australia A at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, on Wednesday, September 24. The Australia A bowlers took charge right from the start, leaving India A fighting hard to come back. Aussies batted first and put up an imposing total of 420 in their first innings. It was led by Todd Murphy, who hit an excellent 76 off 89 deliveries, including 12 boundaries and a six. India A batting was routed under pressure. KL Rahul and Narayan Jagadeesan were the hosts who opened the innings, and the Indian team opener got out for a paltry 11, while Jagadeesan gave some resistance with 38 before getting out to Henry Thornton. The middle order collapsed rather quickly as captain Dhruv Jurel, Devdutt Padikkal, and Nitish Kumar Reddy all fell for a single run. Ayush Badoni scored 21 runs, but Manav Suthar was out for a duck. Prasidh Krishna retired injured on 16 and was replaced by Yash Thakur under the concussion substitute rule. The lower order also perished, with wickets falling for single-digit totals. The exception was Sai Sudharsan, who led the fight with a gritty 75 from 140 deliveries, supported by six boundaries and one six. Australian A's Henry Thornton took 4 for 36, while Murphy secured 2 for 48. Will Sutherland, Corey Rocchiccioli, and Cooper Connolly each took a wicket. Australia A lost three wickets in a hurry in their second innings, reaching 16 for 3, with captain Nathan McSweeney remaining on 11. India A bowlers in Australia A's second innings provided some resistance. Mohammed Siraj, Gurnoor Brar, and Manav Suthar picked up a wicket each, but the tourists were still well in front by 242 runs. The hosts' batting displayed glimpses of struggle, especially in the case of Sudharsan, but in general they struggled against rigorous bowling. Australia A, on Day 3, will try to take advantage, hoping to increase their lead even more and get India A back out to bat under duress. India A, for their part, will have to regroup and reorganize their innings if they are going to remain competitive in the game.
