The highly anticipated day 1 of the 3rd test match of the Border- Gavaskar Trophy turned out to be a disappointment for fans all around the globe as only 13.2 overs were possible throughout the day due to heavy rain. India, after winning the toss at the Gabba chose to field first on what looked like a dangerous pitch for the batters. India made two changes in their side with Ravindra Jadeja and Akash Deep making their way into the playing 11, replacing R. Ashwin and Harshit Rana, respectively. Australia, ending the day with 28/0 would definitely be the happier side as their seemed to be no demons in the pitch whatsoever and Indian pacers couldn't extract any level of help from it. Comfortable Khawaja & McSweeney Having asked to bat first by the visiting side, out walked the two Australian openers and safely negotiated the little period of play that took place before rain took over. Both, Usman Khawaja and the youngster Nathan McSweeney looked quite comfortable in their short stay at the crease as none of the Indian pacers looked threatening enough. Before the start of the match there were lots and lots of talks about the pitch in Brisbane. The pitch that appeared lush green just a couple of days back, had most of its grass trimmed by this morning. The pitch here in Gabba which is considered to be full of pace and bounce seemed to be a perfect batting track today with almost no swing availabe in the first hour of play. Siraj opened the bowling attack for India and never seemed to pose any real threat to the two openers of the home side. With almost no swing on offer, Indian pacers also didn't help themselves either with their inconsistent lines and lengths just like the Adelaide test. Only 1 out of the first 33 deliveries bowled, would have hit the stumps, proving how ill-directed was their bowling channel. Day 2 The remaining four days are set to have a 30 minute early start and a minimum of 98 overs per day to compensate for the time lost. India would be hoping for the pitch to retain some moisture overnight and thus assisting the pacers early morning. Australia would look to build their opening stand even stronger and put the pressure over the visitors. Everyone would also like to keep an eye towards the sky as the weather forecast isn't much encouraging for the upcoming days either.
