The Punjab Kings wicketkeeper batter Prabsimran Singh sounds confident in Shreyas Iyer's captaincy abilities, hoping the losing saga will finally conclude this year. Shreyas Iyer, the 2024 IPL-winning captain on behalf of the Kolkata Knight Riders, joined PBKS after the later sealed him for a massive INR 26.74. In the 2025 IPL, Iyer happens to be the second highest buy after Rishabh Pant (INR 27 core). Speaking about Iyer's presence, Prabhsimran hailed his captaincy abilities, calling him the "lucky charm" for the team. speaking to the Times of India, Prabhsimran said, "Shreyas has been an amazing leader. Punjab have been waiting for its maiden title for a long time, and I'm sure that wait will end with Shreyas in the team. He will be a lucky charm for us. We have a new team, and it looks solid. We’d all want him to bring that luck and help us secure our first IPL trophy." For the 2025 IPL, Shreyas Iyer has united with his longtime IPL head coach Ricky Ponting after 3 years. Punter, who happened to be a Delhi Capitals head coach, has joined the PBKS team this season as the same. Meanwhile, Iyer had a top-notch cricketing season since he was abducted from the BCCI Central Contract. He literally won all possible tropies, including the 2024 IPL trophy for KKR. In the 2023-24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Iyer has been the fourth highest run scorer, having 340 runs, which he scored with a strike rate over 180. Not only that, he ended the 2025 Champions Trophy on a high note, scoring 243 runs, being the highest scored for India. Shashank, who was a controversial buy in the previous seasons, cemented his place for the tea, gaining the retension. In a recent interview, he too expressed utmost confidence, claiming that Punjab will finish at the top of the table when he was asked about the top four teams. Meanwhile, the Punjab Kings are one the three teams since 2008, that has never won the title. Back in 2014, they played the final, but KKR, but a Manish Pandey classic (94 runs) was enough to doom the glorious 115* innings from the Bengal-origin Wriddhiman Saha.
