Former England captain Nasser Hussain has lauded Ben Stokes’ on-field equation with Jofra Archer, marking it as a defining trait of the all-rounder's leadership. While analysing the fourth Test draw against India at Old Trafford, Hussain said on Sky Sports Cricket, “I like the fact that Ben knows what makes Jofra Archer tick. There’s a huge amount of respect between the two.” Hussain recalled an incident at Lord’s during Archer’s return to the Test setup, where Stokes balanced firm words with warmth. “At Lord’s, exactly the same happened. Stokes has that mentality—‘I’m your friend and I’ll look after you, but I’m not your best friend. If you don’t quite get it right, I will have a word with you.’” That tough love, Hussain said, seems to bring out the best in Archer. “He’ll know what makes Archer tick, and I think Archer is actually a better bowler when he is a bit fired up and his legs start pumping a little bit.” Read also: England makes crucial changes in the squad ahead of 5th Test, recalls star all-rounder Archer’s Return Adds Fire; India Hold Firm in Fourth Test Archer, making his red-ball return midway through the five-match series, grabbed crucial wickets, 2/52 and 3/55 at Lord’s, then 3/73 and 1/78 in Manchester. His pace added a fresh dimension to England’s attack, as the fourth Test ended in a tense draw with India showing spine. India denied England a win after being offered an early conclusion to the game. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar both struck centuries, guiding India to safety on Day 5. With England leading 2-1, the Oval Test looms large. But Stokes’ composed authority and his knack for channeling Archer’s energy may be England’s quiet edge.
