India is a country that worships cricket. The fans are highly attached to every win and defeat, and the love sometimes touches the bar in such a toxic way that players and coaches get limitless hate when the results turn the other way. The mob that celebrates under the team bus fights to manage a selfie with and will shower abuse after a loss. Gautam Gambhir, since his appointment, similarly became a soft target for harsh criticisms. In a recent interview with ABP, the Indian head coach, Gautam Gambhir, opened up on his views and approach to such reactions. The host lured Gambhir, reminding him of how certain commentators go harsh on him after the loss against New Zealand and Australia. Replying to this, Gautam first prompted that he has been with the team for 8 months only and that he is open to criticisms. He said, "See, I tell you that it has only been 8 months for me so far. Only 8 months. And, if the results don't come, I am absolutely fine with criticisms. It is people's job to criticize me, and they can criticize. But there are also some people who have been sitting in the commentary box for twenty to twenty-five years; they raised questions on each and every thing of mine. They feel that Indian cricket is their home. But actually, Indian cricket is the identity of 140 crore people and it will remain like that." That's the prize money that I received in the Champions Trophy. I don't need to tell this country where I kept the money and where I invested it. But this country should know very well that for how many days such people have been working in the country as NRIs and earning money from the country and taking it abroad... I am an Indian and I am not an NRI to evade taxes. But coming back, India won the Champions Trophy, which not only relaxed GG a bit but also shut down many criticisms, especially those coming from the com box.
