Kolkata Knight Riders suffered their third defeat of the IPL 2025 season, going down by just four runs to Lucknow Super Giants at the Eden Gardens. Chasing a massive 239, KKR fell short despite a late surge. Speaking to the media after the narrow loss, KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane chose not to talk about the conditions. While he admitted that the pitch was excellent for batting, he was careful not to be drawn into the growing debate around the Eden Gardens surface and its lack of support for spinners once again. “Firstly, there was no help for the spinners, let me clear that,” Rahane said after the game. When asked about the 'home advantage' and regarding the controversy around the pitch, Rahane shut the question with a wry smile. “See, there's been enough talk about the wicket. Aap logon ne bahut usko yeh kar diya hai. Toh agar main abhi kuch bolunga na, toh bawal ho jayega," he said. He further hinted that he would rather raise concerns privately with the IPL than address them publicly. The surface in Kolkata has been under scrutiny this season. 'I think he's happy with that publicity' On Tuesday, Eden Gardens produced a high-scoring thriller, with nearly 500 runs scored across both innings. While LSG posted 238/3, KKR fell just short, ending on 234/7. Also READ: Who are the batters to have been retired out in the history of IPL? Speaking about their performance, Rahane admitted that both their spinners used the boundary well. “They used the boundary really well; bowled to the longer side. Our bowlers tried as well, but Pooran and Marsh batted really well. It was a lovely wicket. Hard for the bowlers,” Rahane noted. When asked about the curator Sujan Mukherjee, who previously stated he doesn't take suggestions from home teams, Rahane replied with a hint of sarcasm. “Let me just keep it that way. Unko bahut publicity mila. I think he's happy with that publicity.” Rahane, who last played for India in 2023, also mentioned that he just wants to focus on playing cricket and nothing more. “For me, it’s about enjoying my batting and playing for KKR at Eden. I don’t want to think too far ahead,” he said. With this loss, the defending champions find themselves in the sixth spot with two wins and three losses from five matches. They will travel to Chennai, where they will take on the Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk Stadium on April 11.
