The ICC is expanding the next edition of the 2029 ICC Women’s World Cup to 10 teams instead of 8, following the huge success of the 2025 tournament. It was officially ratified by the ICC Board on Friday and marks another major step in the global growth of women’s cricket. The 2025 World Cup, which India and Sri Lanka cohosted, became a record-breaking event as it drew almost 300,000 fans to stadiums-the highest attendance ever recorded for a women's cricket tournament. India beat South Africa by 52 runs in the final at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai to win their maiden World Cup title. Eight teams participated in the 2025 edition, namely India, South Africa, Australia, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, with the first four teams reaching the semi-finals. In an official statement, ICC said: "The ICC Board, keen to build on the success of the event, agreed to expand the next edition of the tournament to 10 teams."
