Headingley's pitch was the only one to receive a rating of 'Very Good' from the International Cricket Council (ICC), which has published ratings of the pitches and outfields during the recently-completed five-match Test series between India and England. The series-opening match was in Leeds, where the hosts won by five wickets. The pitch rating for The Oval, the stadium that hosted the exciting fifth and last Test, is yet to be made public by the world governing body. The pitches employed for the high-octane series also performed better compared to those on which the 2023 Ashes was contested. In that series, none of the five pitches were given a 'Very Good' rating. Two of them (Edgbaston and Lord's) even received an 'Average' rating. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy of 2024-25 had a diametrically opposite review since four out of the five pitches had been given a 'Very Good' rating.
