The Lord’s pitch, where the first Test match between England and New Zealand was played, has received an ‘unsatisfactory’ rating because the pitch was not up to the mark, and both teams struggled badly for the runs. It was also the 150th Test match played at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, which ended with an England victory over the Kiwis by 115 runs. Not only has the recently concluded ODI series between Pakistan and Australia at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore also received a demerit point. The former cricketers, including Michael Vaughan, Simon Doull, and Nasser Hussain, heavily criticized the surface on which the game was dominated by the pace bowlers. The surface was a minefield where batters were struggling and seemed clueless against the hard-pitched deliveries. A total of 40 wickets were fallen in just 166 overs. As per the ICC Pitch and Outfield Monitoring Process, which is available under the ICC Rules and Regulations, if a pitch or outfield is rated as being substandard, that venue will be allocated a number of demerit points. Match referees Andy Pycroft (Lord’s) and Graeme La Brooy (Gaddafi Stadium) submitted their reports expressing concerns of the match officials and the captains. Andy Pycroft on Lord’s pitch said: “There was plenty of excessive seam movement throughout the Test and the ball also kept extremely low on several occasions. The bounce was variable throughout as 16 wickets fell on the first day and 17 on the second. There was simply an over-balance in favour of ball against bat caused by the pitch.” Graeme La Brooy on the Gaddafi Stadium pitch said: "The pitch was slow and low and made scoring runs very difficult. It did not suit a One Day International game as batters had to spend more time to settle in. It helped spin very early in the match and continued the same way throughout.” The first Test match between England and New Zealand was a low-scoring match. After getting invited to bat first, the hosts were bowled out for 140 runs. Then, the Kiwis scored 113 runs in their first innings, followed by England posting a target of 254 runs, and the visitors failed to chase as they got bundled out for 138 runs. On the other hand, Pakistan defeated Australia 2-1 in the three-match ODI series.
