West Indies pacer Jayden Seales has been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a Level 1 offense under the Code of Conduct. In the India vs West Indies 2nd Test in Delhi, Seales hurled the ball at Yashasvi Jaiswal after being hit for three boundaries in the over. ICC has penalized him 25% of his match fee for being guilty of violating Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which is about "throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match." In addition to the fine, ICC has also given Seales a demerit point. The pacer already had one demerit point, and this adds to his count. During the 29th over of India's first innings, an agitated Seales returned the ball to the Indian opener after he picked it up during his follow-through. The ball hit Jaiswal on the pads, who was not happy with the pacer's behavior. The pacer had argued that he was attempting to run out Jaiswal, but Pycroft wasn't convinced. He produced the replays of the act and determined that his throw was not required and was improper. The incident has again brought into focus the need for discipline and calm of mind on the field, regardless of how intense the situation becomes. Even in competitive matches, where the emotions are running high, actions like Seales' throw can so easily go beyond acceptable behavior. The immediate action by the ICC acts as a cue to all players regarding the need to preserve the spirit of the game. Hopefully, Seales learns from this episode and channels his aggression in a more controlled and professional manner in future games.
