The International Cricket Council has penalized both Mohammad Siraj and Travis Head for the verbal spat on Day 2 of the second Test at Adelaide. On December 9, ICC fined Mohammad Siraj 20% of his match fee; however, Head has been handed just one demerit point alongside Siraj. Both of them faced the penalties for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct. In the statement released from ICC, it said, "Siraj has been penalised 20% of his match fee after being found guilty of breaching article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon dismissal." Regarding Head, the statement said, "Head too was sanctioned for breaching Article 2.13 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to the 'abuse of a player, player support personnel, umpire or match referee during an international match'." It further added that both Siraj and Head received one demerit point each, “marking their first offence within the last 24 months.” Mohammed Siraj and Travis Head have been penalised following their on-field incident during the second Test in Adelaide 👀 #WTC25 | #AUSvIND | Full details 👇https://t.co/IaRloqCln2 — ICC (@ICC) December 9, 2024 Read also: 'You are a wanker,' Australian Crowd’s Booing of Siraj Siraj vs Travis Head rift Mohammad Siraj gave a fiery send-off to Travis Headafter toppling his wicket on Day 2 at Adelaide. Notably, Head smashed 140 runs off 141 balls and had just hit a longsix to Siraj in the 140th ball. Head, eventually a local boy, was confronted later that day that he "mockingly" (as per Head said) said "well bowled" to Siraj, which the later did not happily accept. After the verbal exchange, the crowd got triggered and booed him. To this, Siraj reacted, and his teammate Rishabh Pant went and calmed him down. The next day, Siraj denied all claims from Head, saying that nothing sporting happened. However, on day 3, when Siraj was batting, both "mates" had a chat seemingly to have solved the issue. After the match, Head stated that it was Siraj who went to him to resolve the issue, as he "misunderstood" Head. However, Rohit Sharma supported Siraj's attitude, saying that it charges him to perform better. Moreover, he also said that banter and verbal exchange are normal as long as there is the fine line of courtesy. India lost the second test by 10 wickets and will play the third Test at Brisbane on 14th December.
