The International Cricket Council (ICC) has penalised Pakistan’s Khushdil Shah 50% of his match fee for breaching level 2 of the ICC Code of Conduct in the first T20I match against New Zealand. ICC penalised him for an inappropriate touch with another Kiwi player. Shah, who was a part of the playing XI in the first match barged into the back of bowler Zakary Foulkes during the 8th over of Pakistan’s innings. As a result, Shah got some sigh of relief and no legal hearing was conducted. But ICC has handed three demerit points to Khushdil Shah for his misbehaving act. It was the first offence for him in 24 months. It is worth mentioning that Khushdil will be allowed to feature in the second T20I match against New Zealand because it was his first offence. If he accumulates four or more demerits points within a 24-month period then they will be converted into suspension points. Two suspension points result in a ban from either one Test, two ODIs or two T20Is, whichever comes first for the player. Pakistan will look to bounce back in the series after getting humiliated in the first T20I match. They were bowled out on a mere score of just 91, their fifth-lowest T20I total in history, where Khushdil Shah was the highest scorer for his team. The second match of the five-match series is set to go underway in Dunedin on March 18.
