The ICC has launched an investigation for match-fixing activities in the recently concluded Zim Afro T10 league 2024 in Harare. The investigation primarily centers around misconduct during the match between the Durban Wolves and the Harare Bolts. During the 2024 Zim Afro T10 League, suspicions arose regarding the involvement of certain cricketers in questionable activities, with a focus on two overs that drew attention due to a large number of extras, such as wides and no-balls, during a match between the Durban Wolves and Harare Bolts on September 26. Concerns were triggered when Kashif Daud from the UAE, bowling for Durban, came to bowl in the 6th over, and delivered several wides and no-balls. The over turned out to be problematic, conceding 20 runs in 14 deliveries, including seven wides and two no-balls. This erratic performance raised alarm bells among officials. Skipper Yasir Shah, who only bowled one over in the match, ended up conceding 30 runs, a mix of boundaries and extras. The investigation was tightened after a team owner swiftly left for the airport following the game, avoiding questions from anti-corruption officials. Meanwhile, a player’s phone was confiscated, and team management was interrogated over a bowler's underwhelming showing. Although the ICC typically remains tight-lipped during ongoing anti-corruption probes, this case highlights the persistent need for vigilance to combat corruption in International cricket leagues like the Zim Afro T10. The second edition of the Zim Afro T10 League took place in Zimbabwe from September 21 to 29, with the Joburg Bangla Tigers emerging as the champions.
