The ICC has come out to slam the quality of several pitches used during ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. That tournament was held across the West Indies and the USA and has been under tight scrutiny as the ICC released its critical pitch ratings on 20 August. Out of the 52 games played in T20 World Cup 2024, the ICC branded three pitches, including a semi-final pitch, as unsatisfactory. While the pitch and outfield for the ICC T20 World Cup match in New York between India and Pakistan have been rated as "satisfactory" by the sport's governing body. The much-awaited clash between these two arch-rivals at Nassau County International Stadium in New York turned into a low-scoring thriller. After being dismissed for 119 runs, with Rishabh Pant contributing 42, Pakistan could only manage 113/7 in their 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah delivered a game-changing performance, taking 3 wickets for 14 runs in his four overs. The pitch of the Sri Lanka-South Africa match in Nassau County, New York, was rated as "unsatisfactory." Likewise, the pitch for the South Africa-Afghanistan semifinal at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, also has been rated "unsatisfactory." In that very semifinal, Afghanistan was bowled out for 55 runs in 11.5 overs, while South Africa chased down the target without sweat in 8.5 overs. Out of the eight matches held in New York, six of the pitches were rated as "satisfactory." The highest score recorded in New York during the tournament was 137/7 by Canada against Ireland.
